A mathematics lesson for Sec 102 was shared by Miss Ginny Teh. The lesson aimed to teach students the concepts of volume and surface area of prisms. Miss Teh planned to use video clips from brain pop and geometric solids to help her teach the concepts better.
Please provide your feedback and learning points from the tuning protocol that was conducted for this lesson.

Personally, I do find that the video clip is a good trigger to the lesson. In the topic of mensuration, I find that students find it
- difficult to memorize the various formulas
- difficult to differentiate the various formulas for e.g. volume of sphere vs surface area of sphere or volume of prism vs volume of cuboid etc.
I have thought of using CAD/CAM software in the teaching of Mensuration. The software can perform simulation and manipulation to allow students to “visualize” concepts. However, CAD/CAM software are usually costly and they do not justify the high cost if they are simply bought to teach Mensuration.
Alternatively, our dept can explore the possibilities to collaborate with the C & T Dept on this?
