I am an ex-student from pyss and one of the student of Mr Malek back then. He was my physics teacher that time and hope he still can remember me haha. Would just like to use this place to express my thanks for what he had taught me during my pyss days and wish him good luck in whatever things he did. He did inspire me in physics and thats y i am majoring in physics now too.
And lastly, please accept a big thank you from an ex-student from pyss.

P.S. apologise again for using this space.
These 1.5 weeks in PYSS, I picked up a lot of class management techniques which is so enriching.
Most teachers in PYSS practice "mean what you say", which the preparatory course had taught. This re-emphasizes the importance of it.
I've learnt a lot from many teachers the different mtds in dealing with different streams of classes.
From Mr Chan during CPA, copying textbooks really tame the NT students. I practice it in my first class for some students on tues. I should say it does make those naughty ones finally sit down for ten mins. Although inexperience and tired of the class, looking at just one enthusiastic student have encourage me to put my best for this only audience. This first class experience was a 1.5 hour of power struggle for me.
From Mr Malek, he has really made 311 love mathematics. It really surprise and touch me when one student turn back and actually said to me: "Cher, lesson end so fast ah!"
And I have heard a few big names: particulary Ms Goh Layna and Ms Saw. The students that I interacted with said that Ms Goh's lesson is always very interesting. From a previous contract teacher, she mentions that Ms saw can make any class pay attention to her lesson. Have yet to approach them if I can observe their lesson.
In general, I have understood that there is no perfect lesson plan and the need to learn to be flexible. I also realize that a good teacher should be one who is different in every class.

I taught the firt time for CPA this week. It was really challenging in terms of managing and gaining attention from the class. I fully understood the importance of having two teachers especially in NT classes. One teacher managing the noisy students the other delivers the lesson to those who wns to learn. I have learn not to be dishearten by the minimal response and the rude student. Having to substitute several teachers who are on course, I am expose to handling classes alone, which I learn much. I have used the serious and firm approach to deal with them and it left me walking out at the end of the lesson angry and disappointed with the students. In canteen, I have met elite educators who taught me the soft approach, that is to be friends with them and talk to them at their level. Personally the thought of it seems difficult to implement as i thought teachers should ought to have respect and dignity. I don't remember having my teachers talking to me like a friend many years back. However, after this week, I feel that I if I wan to be a teacher, I should not be stuck in the past and be open to new ideas and try to implement them. The students today are different from the past.
If I have the opportunity to substitute a teacher again, I'll be humble and befriend them.

This week I have adopted a new teaching approach towards the students. I try to solve every situations with a smile, talk to the students nicely even when they are really bad. This had allow me to walk out of every class i taught refresh, happy and unburden. Last week I was fuming mad with the classes but the change in my dealings with the students not only allow myself to be approachable to them, it also help me cope with my emotions.
Palm cove has also allow me to know the students in my class better. Most of them are totally different out of class. Talking and chatting with them allows them to familiarise with me and it does help when they know me a bit better. They will be slightly more obedient during class after we know one another better. Therefore personally I think that building relationship is utmost important.

This week I have learnt more about the NT students. They need personal attention. In order to manage them, the method of threatening to ignore them forever forced many to keep still and silent in class (for a while). I realise that they are really lacking in and longing for someone to care for them.
I also learnt that praises also encourage them greatly to be attentive and engaged during lessons. I remember during one lesson, I praise one of the student for his work. After that, many students flooded me with their assignments for me to check, and to praise them too. It encourages me to see them putting in effort but at the same time my heart goes out to them for the lack of love and concern they need.

Class room management is still the greatest challenge i face. One of the reason, i believe, is that as a new or temporary teacher, students tend not to give you due respect in class. As Mr Malek is away, I took over his math class. I never seen the class behave in such unruly manner in any of his lessons. I was quite helpless this week as i try not to punish the upper sec students. I should be firm with the class and only start teaching when the class is quiet. I should have not allowed the class to enter before they are quiet. I should have impose these in order to let them realise that I am serious in dealing with their unruly behaviour.
