Green Ridge Secondary School Visit
1) I learnt that routine, being kiasu and small steps are important. You need to get the students into a routine so that they'll get used to it and not complain so much. I can make use of students' kiasuism to get to them to study. Once students taste a bit of success, they'll be encouraged to study harder. Hence, small steps are important.
2) I liked the 3 marks quiz and the peer tutoring ideas.
3) I would like to try to put them in peer tutoring groups.
Mdm Anisa's lesson plan
I found the way the the discussion was conducted was efficient. Everyone got a chance to contribute to it. It was structured, so this ensured that no time was wasted on trivial matters.
I also learnt a new way to teach the addition and subtraction of positive and negative numbers. The computer program was interesting.
Article about teaching mathematics
I liked the article because the teacher brought real things into the classroom to show the students how math can be applied in real life. The lessons the writer planned requires a lot of preparation, especially if we were to do that for each topic.
I also wondered about the curriculum in the States. Is the curriculum structured in a way to give the teachers more time to plan for their lessons?
