The Sec 1NA basics are very weak and both the express and the NA students are weak in retaining what they've learnt. However, the positive side is that they are not passive and seems to be actively engaged in the lessons. They want fun activities but we have to balance that with lessons taught since we are behind time and fun activities do take too much time for the amount learnt. We will probably take a couple of Saturday mornings if the syllabus is not covered.
The sec 511 pupils generally are very serious though about 5 of them are still weak in their work. However, except for 1 boy, all are trying hard. The worry is that some may reach diminishing returns before their time . So we have to manage them carefully and not just emphasized on the need to study hard. In my dealings with them, they like to talk about what's next in life, BGR, family issues, etc. Most already have tuition. So again, its a balancing act.
